An upcoming exhibition on the Los Angeles department of Hauser & Wirth is all quite meta. L.A. Story (12 September-4 January 2025) is a bunch present impressed by the 1991 romantic comedy through which Steve Martin’s character searches for which means in “a metropolis famously clichéd as a cultural vacuum”, in response to a gallery assertion. Martin, identified for movies akin to Parenthood and Father of the Bride, will co-curate this love story to the Californian metropolis, drawing on the town of angels’ wealthy artist base, that includes works by the likes of Mark Bradford, Ed Ruscha and Vija Celmins. Martin says in an announcement: “I’m thrilled that L.A. Story is the main target of so many fantastic artists and [will be held at] a beautiful gallery, Hauser & Wirth, which is simply throughout the road from the Troubadour, the place I first stepped foot on Santa Monica Blvd, which started my L.A. sojourn.” We’re trying ahead to Steve’s loving tackle La La Land.
